Phil Anders | back to coaches list
Phil Anders

Coach Philip Anders began playing club soccer almost 30 years ago. His commitment and love for the game is evident whenever he is on the field.

The club youth teams Philip played with, Milwaukee Bavarian S.C, were consistently ranked among the top teams in the Midwest. With the Bavarians he received an invaluable soccer education from coaches such as Brian Tompkins (Yale University) and Bob Gansler (US Mens National Team Head Coach 1989-1991), among many others.

In both 1983 and 1984, Philip helped his Nicolet H.S. team win back to back regional titles and progress to the Wisconsin State Championship tournament.

Philip played college soccer in Goshen, IN, at DePaul University in Chicago, and was recruited to play for Marquette University by head coach Jerry Panek.

Since 1998, Philip has been active with soccer in Urbana-Champaign, as a coach, player, and official. In 2003, he received a Community Service Award from the Urbana Park District for his work with youth soccer.

Coach Anders has a USSF 'D' coaching license, and is a USSF certified referee.

Philip currently lives in Urbana, IL, with his wife, Patience , and their children, Mason [13] and Autumn [9]. He works as a Research Programmer in the School of Life Sciences at the University of Illinois.
